By March 16, 2017No Comments1 min read

Derry~Londonderry will play host to a major alcohol and employment conference on 30 March.

The event will focus on new research from the Drink Wise, Age Well programme, which examines the relationship between alcohol, the labour market and the over-50 population.

Joanne Smith, Locality Manager at Drink Wise, Age Well, explained:

“Over-50s make a significant contribution to the local economy and play a vital role in the success of our businesses, not just in the North West but across Northern Ireland.”

“The drinking behaviours of this group can have a big impact on their interactions with the labour market, however, with consequences for productivity, sickness absence and job retention.”

“Our research shows that the over-50 workforce needs to be better supported in dealing with alcohol related issues. This will help to ensure their physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as benefiting the local economy.”

The event will take place in the Millennium Forum, with business leaders from the North West and further afield among those in attendance.

Guests will be addressed by an expert panel, with contributions from Addiction NI, Business in the Community, PeoplePlus NI and the Bank of Ireland.
